How to Help the Panhandle Print E-mail
The Texas Panhandle has been ravaged by wildfires.  Although firefighters and some rain have helped stop the burning, a considerable amount of damage has been done.  Residents and ranchers face the enormous task of rebuilding their lives and re-growing their land.

To date, the Texas Forestry Service has reported the fires claimed nearly 1 million acres of land and tragically, the fires killed eleven people who were unable to escape the blazing inferno.   Homes, barns, fences, power lines and countless cattle were also victims of the fires.

Representative Warren Chisum, from Pampa, and the Texas Farm Bureau have worked together to establish the "Fire Relief Fund."   Along with financial contributions, the Farm Bureau is also accepting donations of hay, fenceposts, and other necessities.
Donations can be sent to:  Texas Farm Bureau "Fire Relief Fund"

For more information about the wildfires and how you can help, visit www.txfb.org or call (806) 665-8451.

Additionally, the Eastern Texas/Panhandle Chapter of the American Red Cross is accepting donations to assist fire victims with food, water and monetary assistance (800) 297-2270.

The Texas Department of Agriculture has set up a Web site dedicated to wildfire assistance information at www.agr.state.tx.us.  Both Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs and Governor Rick Perry have requested federal assistance for this disaster.

On the state level, we are working closely with the Texas Forest Service to address their funding needs as they deal with this tragedy.  These grass fires are reported to be the single largest wildfire in Texas history.   For all those affected by this tragedy, let us keep them in our prayers.
