In keeping with tradition, the Texas House Chamber displayed a stunning Christmas Tree for the holiday season. Kathy Harrison and Becky McCraney, owners of Ms. Cayce's Christmas Store in Midland, and their crew of elves decorated the tree. ![]() The tree was adorned to the theme of "Tin Toyland." It donned a plethora of antiquated, multicolored ornaments, such as whimsical toy soldiers, packages, balls and toys with a sophisticated twist. Once the holiday season is over, the ornaments will be donated to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. They will then auction them off and the proceeds from the sales will go to the Children's Miracle Network, which benefits all children's hospitals in Texas. On November 1st, Nadine Craddick and pro-golfer, Ben Crenshaw, unveiled the 2006 Capitol Ornament. Crenshaw is this year's spokesperson for the Capitol Ornament Campaign. The ornament - which is the eleventh in the series of annual collectible ornaments - features the Goddess of Liberty which stands atop the Capitol dome. The three dimensional ornament depicts a miniature casting of the Goddess surrounded by the Texas Lone Star on top of the Texas flag. Sales from the keepsakes provide an additional source of funding for education programs and continued preservation of the Texas Capitol. If you are interested in purchasing an ornament, go to: www.TexasCapitolGiftShop.com, or order toll free at: 888-678-5556. |
